Environmental News: New BOMA Building Energy Challenge!
New BOMA Building Energy Challenge!
BOMA Québec has just announced the launch of its new program, the Défi Énergie en immobilier a building energy challenge,to promote reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GGE) generated by buildings in Quebec.
In 2013, the building sector along accounted for 30 percent of total energy use, including 15 percent by the commercial and institutional sector. The residential, commercial and institutional sector is the third largest source of emissions, more than 10 percent of GGE in Quebec.
The competition will run over four years with the minimum target of a10-percent reduction in GGE. All buildings can enter without restriction, whether energy performance has already been optimized or not. Various categories will be created so any building can vie for recognition of a reduction in its emissions.
The program is freeand only buildings that have reached their targets will have their performance published. The CHALLENGE is modelled on successful challenges in other large cities, particularly the Race2Reduce launched in 2017 by BOMA Toronto. The BOMA Québec project factors in Quebec’s parameters and the specific objectives of the Quebec government’s 2030 Energy Policy, which specifically targets a 15-percent improvement in energy efficiency and a 40-percent reduction in petroleum product consumption.
The CHALLENGE provides a unique opportunity to highlight ENGIE’s expertise. Please pass the word to all your clients and explain that we will be available to guide them through the process!
